“Cold as a witch’s titty!”
That’s the first thing that came to mind this morning as I walked in the cold. But why? I have never felt a witch’s titty. I don’t even like the word titty. I usually use boob, booby, breast, ta ta, anything but titty.
Ok, I might use titty sometimes for comedic purposes or dramatic effect. I’ve never even met a witch as far as I know. Why is a witch’s titty cold? 🤷🏼♀️ Why is this a saying? Have you heard it? Do you say it? Is this a southern thing? What else could it be as cold as? Hmmmm?
Then it made me think about other sayings.
“Full as a tick.” This one I get! Growing up in the swamp, we saw ticks all the time. Have you ever seen a tick? What about a full tick? They are so tiny at first. They are tiny, flat, brownish and dark in color. But once they get some “food” in them!! They swell up, get round, and are light grayish. Ugh! Yuck!!! 😝 So this one makes sense. That’s exactly how I feel after stuffing my face sometimes. Full as a big, fat, ugly tick. Is this a common saying in other areas?
What about “Bleeding like a stuck pig” I’ve said this one. I’ve never stuck a pig though. I’ve never even seen a pig stuck. Do stuck pigs bleed worse than any other animal that might also get stuck? What ARE the pigs being stuck with? WHY are the pigs being stuck? Is that part of the slaughtering process? 🤷🏼♀️ Any pig farmers reading that could help me out here? What about this? Is THIS a southern saying?
