The Chicadee and I had an interesting train ride into town today. The rest of the family decided to sit few seats down, so they missed out. We were riding the train and in the seats across the aisle was a man and a woman. They didn’t sit side by side, they sat facing each other. He was looking out the window, she was on her phone.
A few stops in an older lady sat in the seats facing us. She walked up speaking to us. She was speaking in German, so I just nodded and smiled. She was obviously a little exasperated about something. We think she was running late. The funny thing about running late while using the train is, you can’t do a thing to hurry it up. You are forced to find ways to deal with the fact that you are worked up about being behind schedule. This beautiful woman fidgeted a bit. She took off her scarf. Then she removed her gloves. She straightened her hair. She removed her glasses, then took a look at them and put them back on. She dug around in her bag a bit and found a cleaning cloth. Then she took her glasses off and cleaned them with said cloth. The cloth was then placed in her bag. She looked around a bit. Next, she reached in her bag and moved things around. She found a sales paper, took it out, opened it up, shook it a bit and then browsed it’s pages. Once finished, she put it in the trash receptacle at our seats. Again she began rummaging through her bag. She pulled out a tiny little pine cone. She looked at it, looked at me, and put it back in her bag. I guess she decided she didn’t want to pull anything else out for anyone to see, so she stopped. She began looking out the window.
When we went through a tunnel it caused the window to be dark and reflect what was happening on our side of the window. I saw this look of complete disgust come over her face. She shook her head and then looked back at the man sitting across the isle. I don’t know what she said, but she obviously did not approve of what she was witnessing. I had to see for myself what was so disturbing I turned to look and this grown man was picking his nose. I mean, he had apparently been at it for a bit and it took him a little while longer to find what he was searching for up there. She and I both agreed via expressions that his act was disgusting. Then, she made another sound. I looked again and this man had his hand at his mouth. Nope, not kidding. I can’t say I saw him eat the treasure he found, but he went straight from fingers in nose to fingers to mouth. UGH!! This lady and I again agreed via expressions that this was disgusting. Then, the lady sitting across from this man leaned closer to him and turned her phone to show him something. He took ahold of her phone and was using the same hand he had used to dig for treasure to do something on her phone. Again, the stranger sitting across from me whose language I have yet to speak; looked at me and I looked at her and we both wrinkled up our faces in disgust. As the train reached the next stop, the man stood up, leaned over and kissed the lady that was sitting across from him right on the lips and exited the train. The lady sitting across from me gasped! We all exited the train and went our separate ways.
I guess instead of picking his nose in his car at stop lights, this guy does it on the train.
This behavior seems to be considered disgusting whether you are German or American. Everyday is an adventure I suppose.
Side Note: Chicadee keeps laughing about the tiny pine cone the lady found in her purse.
Apologies: I have no pictures to go with this blog.
